# Virtual reCONNECT 2020 Preview: Advancing RFID in the Food Chain

*This month we’re highlighting several of the amazing on-demand and breakout sessions planned for* [*Virtual reCONNECT 2020*](https://www.foodlogiq.com/reconnect/) *scheduled to take place September 14th - September 18th. With higher consumer expectations and razor-thin profit margins, the entire food industry is increasingly challenged to improve operational efficiencies and supply chain transparency. One evolving technology in the food chain, Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, is playing a growing role in supporting companies in addressing these challenges. 

Two RFID leaders and FoodLogiQ partners, Avery Dennison and Zebra Technologies, will come together for reCONNECT 2020 to discuss their ongoing RFID collaboration and how this technology supports traceability and transparency in the food supply chain. Amy Awe, Market Development Manager, at Avery Dennison and Susan Flake, Director of RFID Business Development, at Zebra Technologies will present at reCONNECT 2020 the on-demand session, [RFID: A Case Study with Avery Dennison and Zebra Technologies](https://www.foodlogiq.com/reconnect/agenda/#sept17), on September 17th, 2020. 

One key area for discussion surrounding the adoption and acceleration of RFID in the food industry is centered on data. The assignment and capture of good, high quality, standardized data will be foundational to the supply chains of the future - supply chains that are faster, more efficient and more precise.

The associated cost efficiencies with traceability supported with RFID are also encouraging as the industry looks to advance enhanced traceability in the New Era of Smarter Food Safety. RFID-enabled track and trace can bring reduced costs associated to labor, inventory exception processing and food waste. And not only are those benefits seen in the increase of inventory management and supply chain visibility, once those critical tracking events are connected across the supply chain, a food brand is able to take swift action in response to a recall or product withdrawal scenario.
