Genesis Foods October 2026 Release: USDA Labels, Simpler Versioning, and a Refreshed UI

The most recent release of Genesis Foods introduces new capabilities designed to make nutrition labeling, ingredient management, and everyday workflows more efficient. From expanded USDA Nutrition Facts Panel support to more flexible recipe editing and a refreshed user interface, these updates give food manufacturers, nutrition professionals, and product development teams greater control over their work. Here's a closer look at what's new in Genesis Foods.

USDA 1993 Nutrition Facts Panel Support

Creating accurate Nutrition Facts Panels (NFPs) requires an understanding of which labeling regulations apply to your products. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) oversee different categories of food products, with distinct requirements for nutrition labeling.

The October release expands Genesis Foods' labeling capabilities with the ability to generate a standard Nutrition Facts Panel that follows USDA's 1993 nutrition labeling regulations.

    USDA 1993 Label Selection

USDA 1993 Label ExampleThis addition is particularly valuable for manufacturers working with USDA-FSIS-regulated meat and poultry products. While the FDA updated its Nutrition Facts Label requirements in 2016, USDA-FSIS regulations have historically maintained different nutrition labeling requirements.

Some of the key differences between the USDA 1993 format and the updated FDA format include the declaration of calories from fat, required vitamins and minerals, and the Daily Values used to calculate nutrient percentages.

With this new functionality, Genesis Foods users can generate a standard USDA 1993 Nutrition Facts Panel directly within the software, giving labeling teams more flexibility when preparing nutrition information for different product categories.

For manufacturers managing multiple product lines, access to the appropriate labeling formats can help reduce manual formatting work and support more consistent labeling processes.

    Flexible Ingredient and Recipe Versioning

Managing ingredient and recipe information often involves changes that have no impact on a product's nutritional composition. Updating a product image, adding documentation, or revising an internal note shouldn't require the same process as changing a formulation.

With the October Genesis Foods release, users can now edit select metadata fields on approved and archived ingredients and recipes without creating a new version.

    Unlocked Metadata

Previously, making these types of updates required creating another version of the food item. Now, users have greater flexibility to maintain their records while preserving the existing version.

The editable fields include images, attachments, tags, notes, authority selections, and food types.

Because these fields do not affect nutritional analysis or Nutrition Facts Panel data, users can make routine administrative updates without introducing unnecessary versions into their ingredient and recipe histories.

For example, a product development team may need to attach an updated specification document to an approved ingredient or add internal notes to an archived recipe. With this enhancement, the team can make those changes directly while keeping the existing version intact.

Importantly, changes that affect nutritional analysis, formulation, or Nutrition Facts Panel information will still require a new version.

This distinction helps preserve the history of nutritionally significant changes while reducing unnecessary versioning for administrative updates. The result is a more manageable recipe and ingredient library, with version histories that more clearly reflect meaningful product changes.

A Refreshed Genesis Foods Interface for Easier Navigation

The October release also introduces a refreshed Genesis Foods user interface, with improvements focused on readability, responsiveness, and accessibility.

As nutrition and product development teams work across complex recipes and ingredient records, the ability to find and review information quickly can make a meaningful difference in daily workflows.

One of the most noticeable changes is a more condensed, easier-to-read read-only view. This updated layout reduces visual clutter and makes it easier to review ingredient and recipe information without unnecessary scrolling or navigation.

The refreshed interface also introduces improvements to responsiveness on smaller screens, creating a more adaptable experience across different screen sizes.

Additionally, enhanced keyboard accessibility makes it easier for users to navigate and interact with Genesis Foods using keyboard controls.

Together, these updates create a cleaner, more accessible working environment for the food professionals who rely on Genesis Foods to manage formulation and nutrition data.

More Flexibility for Everyday Food Formulation and Labeling Workflows

The October Genesis Foods release focuses on practical improvements that help teams work more efficiently without compromising the integrity of their product information.

Expanded USDA 1993 Nutrition Facts Panel support gives labeling professionals another option for preparing regulated food labels. More flexible metadata editing reduces unnecessary version creation, while the refreshed interface makes ingredient and recipe information easier to review and manage.

These enhancements build on Trustwell's continued investment in Genesis Foods, helping food manufacturers and nutrition professionals manage their data with greater flexibility, clarity, and control.
