The U.S. Label module now includes a new Linear Label format option, specifically for small packages that are exempt from displaying a Nutrition Facts label, such as gum and small candies.
Packages with less than 12 sq. in. of total surface area for labeling space are exempt from displaying a Nutrition Facts panel, unless claims are made (e.g. Sugar Free) or other nutrition information is provided on the product label or in other labeling and advertising. Manufacturers may also voluntarily display a Nutrition Facts panel.
In such cases, manufacturers can use the Linear Display for Small Packages (with < 12 sq. in. of labelling space) label format.
“When such products bear nutrition labeling, either voluntarily or because nutrition claims or other nutrition information is provided, all required information shall be in type size no smaller than 6 point or all upper-case type of 1-16 inches minimum height, except that individual serving-size packages of food served with meals in restaurants, institutions, and on board passenger carriers, and not intended for sale at retail, may comply with § 101.2(c)(2).”
To use this format, first set your label Style to “Linear” under Edit Label > General
Then go to Edit Label > Format Options > U.S. > and check the box next to Small packaging exemption. Selecting this option, will set the font size for all text to a 6-point font.
Additional format options for this label format include using abbreviations and hiding the %DV footnote:
User-added Allergens designated as “May Contain” updated with clear display and added functionality.
Any user-added Allergens entered with the “May Contain” designation will clearly display as such in the list of Allergens, the Allergen screen for Ingredients, and in the Allergen statement dialog.
On the Allergen Statement screen, any allergens checked “May Contain” will now automatically appear in the Additional Allergen Statement.
