Section 204 of the [Food Safety Modernization Act](https://www.fda.gov/food/guidance-regulation-food-and-dietary-supplements/food-safety-modernization-act-fsma) instructs the [FDA](https://www.fda.gov/) to develop additional recordkeeping requirements for certain foods to help establish clear tracing of a food product's source when needed to address food safety risks. In the proposed rule, the FDA encourages firms to maintain required traceability information in a single electronic system.
