The first Genesis Foods release of 2025 introduces three major enhancements to help food manufacturers navigate evolving regulations with greater efficiency. From front-of-package (FOP) labeling in Canada to enhanced allergen tracking and bilingual support for EU markets, these updates are designed to simplify compliance-related workflows and reduce manual effort.
A Simplified Approach to Canada’s Front-of-Package Labeling
Canadian regulations now require front-of-package (FOP) symbols for foods that exceed specific thresholds for sodium, sugar, and saturated fat. However, determining whether a product meets these requirements—and applying the correct labeling—can be time-consuming.
With this release, Genesis Foods makes it easier to incorporate FOP symbols into packaging. Users can now select reference amounts directly within recipes based on regulatory guidelines, reducing the need for external calculations.
Genesis Foods also provides customization options, allowing users to select the appropriate symbol orientation (horizontal or vertical), adjust the size, and set language preferences, whether English, French, or both. Once configured, symbols can be previewed and downloaded seamlessly, helping teams create accurate labels more efficiently.
By integrating these tools into the labeling workflow, Genesis Foods helps brands keep up with regulatory requirements while reducing time spent on formatting and adjustments.
Allergen Origins: Greater Visibility for More Accurate Labeling
Food manufacturers are under growing pressure to provide clear and accurate allergen information, both to meet regulatory expectations and to support consumer safety. This update introduces a more detailed approach to allergen tracking by allowing users to see exactly which ingredients contribute to a recipe’s allergen statement.
At the recipe level, a new Allergens section now includes two tabs: Allergen Statement and Allergen Origins. The Allergen Origins tab provides a breakdown of each ingredient that contains or may contain allergens, giving users a clearer view of potential risks.
This new feature works with last release's AskReg Allergen Suggestions, helping prevent improperly labeled allergens—such as missing information or inconsistencies between regulatory requirements—making it easier to catch and resolve errors before finalizing a recipe.
Ingredient-level tracking has also been improved. Users can now specify child allergens for categories such as gluten, crustaceans, mollusks, sulfites, and tree nuts. If an ingredient is missing a required allergen designation, the system will flag the issue at the recipe level, reducing the risk of oversight.
These enhancements give quality and compliance teams more confidence in their allergen statements, making it easier to review and approve recipes while minimizing errors that could lead to labeling inconsistencies.
Bilingual Labeling for EU Markets: More Flexibility, Less Manual Work
For food manufacturers selling in European markets, bilingual labeling is a critical requirement—but managing multi-language ingredient and allergen statements has traditionally been a manual, time-consuming process. The latest Genesis Foods update introduces a more efficient way to generate bilingual labels, giving users the ability to set English and French as primary and secondary language preferences.
Within a recipe, users can now toggle between languages to review ingredient and allergen statements in either English or French, ensuring accuracy before labels are finalized. Additionally, ingredient names can be customized in both languages using ingredient aliases, streamlining label creation and minimizing the need for repetitive edits. These language preferences extend to reporting as well, making it easier to produce compliant documentation for regulatory authorities.
This update is particularly valuable for brands operating across multiple regions, as it reduces the complexity of managing multi-language requirements while maintaining consistency across labels.
A More Efficient Path to Compliance
Regulatory changes continue to shape the food industry, making it essential for manufacturers to have tools that adapt alongside shifting requirements. The new features in Genesis Foods provide greater control over front-of-package labeling, allergen tracking, and bilingual compliance, helping teams work more efficiently while reducing the risk of errors.
