Genesis Foods Upgrades Your Workday with Tools to Work Smarter, Not Harder

For food developers, creating recipes and labels involves countless decisions, often with legal and food safety implications. With stakes that high, every task must be completed with precision and care. That’s why we’re excited to share th updates we made to Genesis Foods in Q4 2024.

These enhancements are designed to simplify your daily work, support data accuracy, and provide the insights you need to create recipes and labels with confidence. Here’s how these updates come together to support a seamless day's work, all week long:

Get a Confident Head Start with Ingredient-Level Precision

Kick off the day with a focus on ingredients, laying the solid groundwork you need to progress to recipes and labels. This morning, you're verifying that all your custom ingredients have the correct allergen disclosures at the ingredient level, so you can be sure they're accurately reflected in your recipe.

The improved AskReg Allergen Identification feature streamlines this task by highlighting potential undeclared allergens based on ingredient and sub-ingredient names:

For example, if enriched wheat flour is listed in a sub-ingredient, AskReg might highlight a potential missing gluten declaration, allowing you to address the issue early. This tool provides an extra layer of review, helping you focus on catching potential issues while reducing the risk of disruptions later.

As you're reviewing your ingredients' allergen declarations, the new Check Calculations feature cross-checks your entered nutrient data for calories, fat, sugars, protein, and weight against expected values based on precise calculations.

If there’s a discrepancy—like a calorie count that deviates significantly from the estimate—it’s flagged for you to review.

These checks give you greater confidence in your data accuracy, setting you up for success as you move into recipe creation.

Elevate Your Recipe Development with Two New Tools

By mid-day, you're ready to shift your focus to fine-tuning your recipes after spending your morning getting all your ingredients' ducks in a row. The Protein Quality Report gives you valuable insights into amino acid scores, showing how your recipe aligns with nutritional goals.

    Protein Quality Report-1

For example, you can identify limiting amino acids, compare actual ratios to ideal values, and address any missing data in the Nutrients section. This tool is particularly valuable for high-protein or plant-based products, helping you refine recipes to meet consumer and regulatory expectations and have confidence in your recipe claims.

Later, you prepare two similar recipes that will feed into a dual-column label with nutrition facts for "as sold" and "as prepared" in two columns, side-by-side. For instance, a dry cake mix might require an “as sold” version that reflects the uncooked product and an “as prepared” version that includes added water, vegetable oil, and eggs. This process becomes super easy with the Copy Recipe feature, allowing you to duplicate an existing recipe with a few clicks. Setting up these variations now clears the way for transparent and compliant label creation when the time comes.

Bring it All Together with Streamlined Label Creation

As your day wraps up, it’s time to create labels for your developed recipes. The Copy Label feature makes this process significantly faster by allowing you to duplicate an existing label format. Display Options, Serving Options, and Nutrient selections are all carried over, so you can focus on tailoring the label to the specific product.

Dual Column Canada Label-1If you’re working on a product for the Canadian market, the new Canada Dual Label feature allows you to create bilingual, dual-column labels for “as sold” and “as prepared” values. Customizable column headers and decimal separators help you maintain compliance with Canadian standards while keeping the label clear and consumer-friendly.

For U.S. products, similar dual-label formats are available for portioned servings or products requiring preparation, offering flexible solutions for multiple markets.

To close out the day, you export a report of active recipes using the Display Number of Active Recipes feature. This tool provides quick insights into your recipe database and ensures your team always works with the most relevant and up-to-date information.
