Trustwell, a pioneering food and dietary supplements SaaS solutions provider that covers a range of business needs from recipe creation to regulatory compliance to recall management, is diving into the podcast realm. Transparency Talk with Trustwell will feature conversations with regulatory experts, quality and safety champions, and thought leaders across the food and dietary supplements industries.

The conversations will range from the latest technology influencing food manufacturing, to regulatory changes impacting traceability, to labeling updates from the FDA. Together, Trustwell and our guests are on a mission to change the industry for the better.

Episode 1: Understanding FSMA 204 and its Implications for Food Safety

Episode one is out now on all major podcast streaming services; Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Play, and more. The first episode features a discussion on Section 204 of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA 204) with Katy Jones, CMO of Trustwell, and Julie McGill, VP of Supply Chain Strategy at Trustwell. Listen below:

Together, our hosts discuss the myriad ways in which transparency along the supply chain requires comprehensive systems of traceability across all stakeholders. While consumers expect their food to be safe when they pick out items at a grocery store or restaurant, the reality is that the food had to pass through many hands and company systems that consistently monitor that foods’ route, events, and locations. The FDA has been focused on building stronger food traceability systems for years, and eventually passed the final rule for FSMA 204 at the end of 2022. Now, businesses will have until January 2026 to build traceability plans and begin collecting data on “high-risk” foods that pass through their doors.

Our first expert guest, Julie McGill, has been an active participant on several industry groups and committees and has spent over 16 years at GS1 US building a foundation for traceability and supply chain visibility with various supply chain stakeholders. Some of the committees she has been on include the GS1 US Joint Foodservice and Retail Grocery FSMA 204 Working Group (including contributing to recently published FSMA 204 guidelines leveraging GS1 Standards), RFID Foodservice Supply Chain Visibility Working Group, Supply Chain Optimization Working Group, and the EDI Discussion group. She serves on the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) Leadership Council, is co-chair of the PTI Technology Work Group and participates in the PTI FSMA 204 Work Group. Julie also is co-chair of the AIM North America Food Supply Chain Work Group and participates in the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability and GS1 Global GSMP Work Groups. Needless to say, you won’t want to miss what McGill has to say about FSMA 204 compliance.
